First Day of School

Haysannah's first day of first grade is here! She was so excited for school to start. We went into the classroom last Friday to meet her teacher and put her supplies in her desk. The teacher, Mrs. Olguin, told her to pick any desk that she wanted.

I got up early to wake her up and she just popped awake and immediately began to get dressed (this never happens). She already chose her outfit last night and laid it out with everything else she needed to wear today. Then she came down and ate waffles (her favorite). She was ready to go!

Here she is getting ready to walk out the door.

(Shalyce wanted to be included on the first day pictures as well.)

I took her to school for the first day to make it special and to make sure she knew what she was doing. Haysannah just loved seeing all of her friends again from last year. (She is going to the charter school here and they have one class per grade. So most of the kids she had in her class will be in her class this year.) When the bell rang she lined up against the wall and was welcomed by her teacher. Good luck Haysannah!

I hope she does well today and enjoys her lunch (that's a first for her too). They have a no peanuts rule at their school due to a few kids who are allergic. I was really stressing about what she would eat. Our ususal hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter sandwiches just wouldn't work. I am having to get creative on this one. Any suggestions?

You could get a small ice pack for her lunch bag and do meat, cheese, and crackers. I bought Whitney a small thermos at Target so we can use it for both hot and cold items. One of my friends did soup a lot for her kids last year with the thermos. You might be able to do mac and cheese that way.

Can you use almond butter instead of peanut butter, or have they banned all tree nuts? My kids like chicken nuggets (we get the dinosaur kind from Costco) with a little bit of ketchup. You could also try cream cheese and jelly (Julie saw this sandwich in "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and enjoys it every once in a while).

Congrats Haysannah! Hattie doesn't start for two more weeks! Lunches will be a struggle - I guess Hattie is easy with ham and cheese on mini bagels!! We do the thermos with mac n cheese sometimes!! She is so cute!

We had the same problem last year. Elizabeth packed lots of ham and cheese sandwiches and bagels. She looks so cute!
