In an effort to honor Pioneer Day, we created our own trek. We were talking about how the pioneers had to leave their homes in a short time and bring only those things that were essential. We talked about how they needed food, bedding, transportation, and shelter. So we gave them about 10 minutes to pack our "wagon". They chose their pillow, blanket, tent, food, scriptures, water, and another set of clothes. We think they did an excellent job!
Now that we had all that we needed for our trek we were off. We walked as a family down the long road behind our house until we reached our resting spot. There we had a drink and talked more about what the pioneers might have done after a long day of traveling. They may have sang songs, danced, ate, or rested.
We then continued our journey and each took a turn pulling the wagon. Some pioneers didn't have any animals to pull their wagons so they had handcarts. The handcarts were only pushed by the people themselves across all the terrains.
